The apprentice laboratory technician in biology orientation becomes familiar during his training with several laboratory techniques, in particular methods of cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry, immunology and microscopy as well as in vitro culture.
On completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will be able to plan and prepare experiments, carry them out and evaluate the results.
Training as a biology laboratory technician at UNIL enables you to work in institutes and departments at the cutting edge of scientific research in many fields. From plant biology to molecular biology and cancer research, you will be surrounded by specialist researchers who are internationally recognised for their work. You will also have the opportunity to undertake work placements in order to learn about other ways of working.
To work in this field, you need a good knowledge of maths, biology and chemistry, as well as precision and attention to detail. It is also important to enjoy working in a team and to have a curious nature. Even if the trainer interacts with the apprentice in French, English is often the language used in the laboratories. A good level of language skills is therefore an asset.
