Historical archives

The archives of the University of Lausanne have been developed since 1991. Initially, the task was to process the Rectorate's old administrative documents.

In a nutshell

In 1991, the University of Lausanne created the post of part-time archivist to handle the Rectorate's old administrative documents.

In 1995, an agreement was signed with the Vaud Cantonal Archives (ACV). The latter will keep documents dating from before 1945. The others will remain on the UNIL premises. Over time, the scope was extended to cover :

  • the entire institutional perimeter: management, departments, faculties and institutes
  • all types of archives: administrative, scientific, private
  • all information media: text, sound, images, objects, digital and paper files, etc.

In 2012, the University archives became the first institution in the canton of Vaud to benefit from an archival autonomy agreement, thanks in particular to the Law on Archiving, which came into force in 2012.

The archives offer the widest possible access to the University's holdings, within the strict framework of the legislation in force.
