Recruitment process for full and associate professors

1. Browse our vacancies

All our vacancies are published online for all Faculties except the Faculty of Biology and Medicine.

2. Apply for the vacancy that you are interested in

Your application must include the following as a minimum:

  • Covering letter

  • CV

  • Copies of qualifications, particularly your PhD certificate

The application must also meet the requirements set out in the job advertisement.

3. We carefully examine your application and shortlist the candidates

A selection committee is appointed to manage the process, whose role includes examining applications and shortlisting candidates for interview.

4. We will ask you to attend one or more interviews and invite you to give a public lecture

Shortlsted candidates are invited to at least one interview and asked to give a public lecture to the selection committee.

5. A selection committee report is drawn up

Following the interviews and the public lecture, the selection committee draws up a report, which is submitted to the Faculty Council via the Dean's Office. Once the report and its proposals have been approved by the Faculty Council, they are forwarded to the Rectorate for a decision.

6. We make an offer to the successful candidate

When the report is submitted to the UNIL Rectorate, the starting salary is set jointly by the Rectorate and the Human Resources Department. As a general rule, the Faculty Director will inform the person selected of their individual salary before their meeting with the Rectorate.

Experience is determined by the period between the date of appointment and the date of completion of the PhD thesis, minus five years.

Where the difference between the date of appointment and the date of completion of the PhD is less than five years (60 months), the starting salary is set at the minimum point on the scale.

Example

  • Date of appointment: 1 August 2022
  • Date of obtaining PhD: 1 September 2008
  • Calculation rule: subtract 5 years

Calculation for determing the starting salary

  • 2022 - 2008 = 13
  • 13 - 5 = 8
  • Grade = 9
  • Grade 1 + 8 additional
  • Grade = 9
  • The post-holder's salary then gradually increases to the maximum point on the scale.

The Human Resources Department is responsible for determining salaries.

7. Welcome to UNIL

The Rectorate adopts the conclusions of the committee's report and meets with the candidate to confirm their commitment. The Human Resources Department draws up the employment contract and informs the Welcome Centre in order to prepare for the arrival of the new member of staff.
