A number of training courses in research ethics are available online. Below are some useful links. While these courses focus primarily on the biomedical field, they nonetheless provide a solid foundation for anyone wishing to familiarise themselves with the fundamental principles of research ethics.
Training and Resources in Research Ethics Evaluation (TRREE). The TRREE project is an initiative of a consortium of partners from the North and South. The aim of TRREE is to make available online training on the ethics of health research involving human subjects, while strengthening skills and promoting the highest ethical standards and the protection of participants. The site provides free access to 1) online training (e-learning) on the ethical evaluation of research, recognised by a certificate; 2) online resources (e-resources) on a participatory website that makes regulatory texts and policies available at international, regional and national level.
Training in research ethics from the three federal research agencies (Canada). This self-paced course presents content in a variety of formats, interactive exercises and multidisciplinary examples. It comprises eight modules, from basic principles to C&E evaluation. Although it was designed primarily for researchers and members of research ethics boards practising in Canada, anyone can follow it and print out their own certificate of completion.
The Swissethics website lists existing continuing education courses in research ethics in Switzerland, particularly for members of committees and researchers concerned with the The Federal Act on Research Involving Human Subjects.
At the University of Lausanne, the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en éthique (CIRE) is responsible for developing continuing education courses in ethics. At present, two courses are in place:
