Administrative and technical staff (PAT)

The administrative and technical staff (PAT) of UNIL are responsible for the organisational running of UNIL.

Members of the IT, logistics, communications, human resources, finance, consultancy, laboratory and security departments work together to support and assist UNIL in fulfilling its missions in teaching, research and the sharing of knowledge with the general public.

Composed of some 2,39,000 people aged 15-65, the diversity of expertise and the coordination and collaboration of administrative and technical staff make it possible to ensure the continuity and success of the university; and success of UNIL over the long term, by relying on responsible, dynamic people who support the development of their skills anchored in a demanding and constantly evolving environment.

  • Leave for sick children, up to five days per year.
  • Maternity leave (four months) and breastfeeding leave (one month).
  • Other parent leave (formerly paternity leave) of 20 days for fathers. Single-parent situations are governed by analogy, i.e. a mother's partner or a father's partner is also entitled to this leave.
  • Adoption leave (four months). This leave can be shared between both parents if they work at UNIL.
  • Caregiver leave (up to 12 days per year).
  • Parental leave (between 6 and 12 months).
  • Extended leave for family reasons (between 2 weeks and 12 months).
  • Partial leave, i.e. a temporary reduction in working hours for family reasons.
  • Leave to care for a child seriously affected by illness or accident. A maximum of 14 weeks can be taken all at once or in the form of individual days within an 18-month period.

UNIL staff are also entitled to paid short-term leave in the event of marriage (four days), death (up to three days) and other important family circumstances (up to two days).

We invite you to read Directive 1.35 on family leave for detailed information, in particular on the terms and conditions for granting such leave and its effects on career development within UNIL.
